About James Tenser
James Tenser

VSN Strategies Principal James ("Jamie") Tenser is a seasoned consultant and author specializing in online business strategy for retail and consumer products companies. He is also founder and editor of VStoreNews and vstorenews.com, which provide retailers and brand marketers with analysis and strategic insight about virtual (online) retailing. Since 1996 he has maintained a special focus on the online grocery category.

His book, "Tenser's Tirades: Essays on the Dot-Com Retail Phenomenon 1996-2001" was published in October 2001.

The VSN consulting practice grew out of a distinguished 20-year career as a business journalist, analyst and commentator covering consumer goods retailing and marketing for business publications including Supermarket News, Brand Marketing, Discount Merchandiser and VisionMonday.

Prior to forming VSN Strategies, Tenser was principal of the Retail & Consumer Products practice at Nexgenix, Inc. In this capacity he led business opportunity assessment, strategy and delivery for clients in this sector. He was responsible for the company's commerce and content management, customer relationship management, and marketing analytics services offerings.

Since forming VStoreNews.com in 1997, Tenser has delivered consulting services to such clients as: Del Monte Fresh Produce, Tree of Life/Gourmet Award Foods, PRN Networks, Hoyt & Company, Armature Ltd., Interactive Edge, National Association for Retail Merchandising Services, Anew!, Hewlett Packard, Merchandising Corporation of America, MAI Companies, Blue Martini Software, and The Partnering Group.

Tenser is frequently quoted in national and international media and trade publications. He contributes columns to periodicals such as Chain Store Age, RetailTech, Executive Technology, Brand Marketing, and Where It's @. He has made numerous television and radio appearances, and is a frequent speaker at industry trade shows and conferences, including Internet World, iGrocer, Retail Systems 2000, the International E-Commerce Congress (Germany), Grocery Manufacturers of America Internet Marketing Conference, e-Retail '99.

Tenser received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University.
